The Vista Competition is an annual competition for contemporary chamber opera. From the submitted entries, six to eight semi-finalists will be selected and excerpts of these operas will be performed in front of a live audience. A panel of judges will critique each excerpt, and the audience will vote to select operas for the final round. In the final round, the winning excerpts will be performed again with a longer critique from the judges, and the audience will be encouraged to ask questions of the composers; the audience then votes to determine the winner of the competition, and the results will be announced at the next night’s festival performance.
