Ainadamar ("Fountain of Tears" in Arabic), a Flamenco opera by the great Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov, meditates on the life and death of Spanish poet-playwright Federico García Lorca. Set during the tumultuous Spanish Civil War, Golijov's provocative opera uses the reflections and memories of Lorca's muse, actress Margarita Xirgu, to examine the moral duty of the artist, the pursuit of freedom, and martyrdom.
